Amanda Petrusich, in her article “The Lofty Optimism of Spotify and the influence of the Influence of the Streaming Revolution “ , argues that Spotify is growing as a business is bad . First she says “Of course, Spotify did not invent creation- nor the idea of making a living as an artist if anything, it’s merely complicated artistic existence “, she’s saying that its making it harder for artist in today’s time to get paid for their music .If the fans are streaming it from Spotify and not actually getting it from stores or a different outlet that pay the artist then they are making very little money because Spotify is essentially taking it .Second she says “Spotify has yet to foster a creative community in the same way”,she was referring to how SoundCloud has its own community of people and how they help each other out and Spotify doesn't do that. Finally she says’’The company is essentially insisting that freer and easier access to music is the only thing that matters;Everything should be available to everyone ,because freedom of choice is essential freedom’’she saying that freer and easier access is not the only thing that matters and Spotify seems to be promoting that a lot.
I disagree with Petrusich technology and the internet has made streaming music a lot easier and faster then ever before.I prefer to use Spinrilla, Apple Music, or Youtube they are very reliable and very easy to use .I do think its still nice to play a old record or a old cd but most of the time you don't have the time to fit that in, I know I don’t. Technology has only made music more convent and less time consuming . Technology or Spotify hasn't necessarily taken away any of musics value or changed the style of music its just easier ways to access music then to buy a record or a cd. Although I have a few friends who have old records I don't see them use them that much its usually for decoration or special occasions .The first piece of music I had was a mp3 player that my mom bought me, it was red and black with a cap you had to pull off to use the usb plug in and download new music to it .I was about in second grade when my mom bought me it I use to love my mp3 I never went anywhere without it. Then time passed by and i got a little older and I bought my first cd it was “The Carter 3 “ by Lil Wayne. I earned the money by cutting some of my neighbors yards with some friends and it was worth every minute. I used to listen to that cd everyday and every night on my cd player. Its like the cd never got old to me until I lost it. To this day I still don't know where I put that cd but I bought plenty more after until technology started to move to where it is today and now its all through the internet and different music apps.
I agree that technology is a great way for streaming music, and that Lil Wayne album was clean!!
